With two flat rectangular plates, one inside face adorned with four finely engraved seals, and religious imagery and symbolism, this exquisite 18th-century French hand-forged piece showcases the blacksmith’s superior old world craftsmanship. It is reminiscent of Mediaeval waffle irons and features the traditional engraving arrangement of two large hosts (for the priest) and two small hosts (for the faithful), as well as the Crucifixion, the Paschal Lamb, and the Ascension of Jesus. The opposite plate is smooth and shaped like pliers with two very long, slender arm handles.
